Een nieuwe ronde in de strijd tussen Apple vs Google. Vol verwachting klopt momenteel het hart van veel Apple-fans, in verband met een nieuwe iPhone. Maar volgens The New York Times is het aantal smartphones met Google’s besturingssysteem Android nu hoger dan het aantal iPhones.
Despite all the hoopla surrounding the Apple announcement [over een nieuwe iPhone – PT], more people buy smartphones running Google’s Android operating system than buy Apple phones. Android’s share of new smartphone sales is now more than double Apple’s share, a striking change from a year ago, when the two were roughly even, and a reflection of how Android phones have improved and become more broadly available.

Ondertussen heeft Google-baasje Eric Schmidt geprobeerd om nogmaals de telefoonfabrikanten van smartphones met Android gerust te stellen dat Google echt niet Motorola gaat voortrekken. Concurrenten van telefoonboer Motorola, dat ook Android gebruikt, zijn daar bang voor sinds Google Motorola kocht. In een interview met Bloomberg zei Schmidt:
“The Android ecosystem is the No. 1 priority, and that we won’t do anything with Motorola, or anybody else by the way, that would screw up the dynamics of that industry (…) We need strong, hard competition among all the Android players. We won’t play favorites in the way people are concerned about.”
